Hedge Laying Course at New House Farm 28th - 29th January 2026 9am - 4pm New House Farm, Dingestow, Monmouthshire, NP25 4EB Instructor: Malcolm Edwards and Mark Discover the traditional craft of hedge laying at New House Farm, where tenant farmer Sarah is managing the hedgerows within her beef cattle grazing system. Over the two days, Malcolm and Mark will guide you through the regional hedge laying style, explaining the importance of hedgerows for farming and wildlife, the tools of the trade, and giving you plenty of hands-on experience in the field. What’s Included - Two days of practical tuition - Introduction to hedge laying tools & techniques - Understanding why hedgerows matter for biodiversity, farming & landscape character - Tools provided (this course is taught with traditional hand tools not chainsaw. If you have your own hand tools, feel free to bring along) - Refreshments included What You’ll Need to Bring - Waterproofs & warm outdoor clothing - Thick gloves - Sturdy boots - Packed lunch Whether you’re a farmer, land manager, conservation volunteer, or simply keen to learn a countryside skill, this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to lay hedges yourself.
